One of the greatest joys I can think of as a parent is watching your children develop in maturity in their relationship with God- such is the case with my daughter, Sara. I appreciate so much her desire to want to get closer with the Lord, train up her children in the ways of God, and love on her friends and neighbors. She is a blessing. (also today is her birthday !)
Today’s post will be a treat for you–it’s a message from her on “Finding your Purpose”. It’s a timely word and one you will enjoy and be challenged by:
“Purpose, why we were created. So many people are desperate to know “their” purpose . People are desperate to figure out why God created them and what they are supposed to do in this life. If you’re like me, you wondered this many times. You dream of ways God might use your testimony, or that He would give you a platform to share, or that your ideas become a reality and a ministry is formed through a business. Whatever the case may be, I find myself constantly dwelling and thinking of the future.
I don’t think it’s wrong to be a forward thinker but I do think it’s very distracting. It allows us to come up with expectations for our future, which in turn can almost become idols in our lives. We have expectations for what our life should be. But we forget God is in charge.
Like it says In Matthew 6:34, “do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will take care of itself” Lately, I have been learning that it’s more about a day to day struggle, rather than preparing for an instance that I believe is the reason I was created . The Bible makes it very clear what our purpose is, and it’s something that we can all work on every day. The Bible says in Mark 12:30, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart , with all your soul and all your mind and all your strength”
Then Mark follows up with our 2nd purpose in verse 31, ” love your neighbor as yourself”.
Who better to show us how to love than Jesus . A man who gave His life so that we might be forgiven. Our purpose is clear if you are a believer. We need to be Jesus to everyone in our lives. If we are Jesus to our husbands, how much more will we place his needs above our own; if we are Jesus to our toddlers how much more will we be joyful and gentle and take the time to teach them about our amazing God. If we are Jesus to our neighbors and friends, how much more will we be intentional about serving them and sharing with them about our Lord.
You see friends, God has given us an opportunity every day to be His lights into this world . We all need to be the kind of believers that live our lives knowing we have a purpose everyday, knowing that there are unbelievers around us everyday who’s salvation is on the line.
I once heard that, ” Heaven is for hanging out, while we’re on this earth we have a job to do!””
