Poetry: Slip Knot

For those who are used to receiving my typical posts, you will find something different in this poetry post. This is a poem that is a part of a Poetry collection that comes from a time of my my searching days

Slip Knot

Babe,  there’s something that we’ve got,

our hearts have made a friend,

and it’s that special kind of love

that will be with us to the end.

But there still could be some troubles,

although I hope that they are few,

but if we keep our faith in love,

we can see these troubles through.

Here’s an example of what I mean,

for you it  could shed some light,

just think of this analogy,

I think it sums it up right:

together we are one

like a rope or even a string,

two ends to our whole,

we give meaning to a ring.

But in the course of this life,

the few ends will cross,

a knot will be formed

and peace will be lost.

It all comes down to us,

do we take time to find the slot?

For love is true understanding

in dealing with a slip knot.

What got you here won’t get you there (in Sales)!

“He who walks with wise men will be wise” is a favorite verse of mine from the Bible.  The idea that comes to my mind is the importance of humility and coming along side someone else (wiser or more experienced than you) to learn from them.

For me, this book was a needed read. I have been in sales for nearly 30 years. This book brought to mind the reminder that these are different times than years ago. Times change. Technology changes, Industry changes and we, also can change.

Regarding you and me, we can begin to develop habits that are not helpful to our effectiveness.  A constant theme of this book is in order for us to get better at what we do, not to focus on adding more steps or behaviors we need to master, but simplify things and look at those harmful, foolish, or unproductive habits we are currently doing and stop doing them.  Sounds simple.  In some ways, it is.

Just this past week, through the reading of this book, I became aware of two habits that I was doing in my sales job that were not beneficial.  They made me not as effective as I could be. I recognized what I was doing and I purposed to make changes – to stop doing them.  It felt good to see my weakness and make a change that would make me better.

Read this book and enjoy this fresh perspective.  I believe you find that the time you read it will be worth it.

Going back to the heart of it all…

As I’m nearing my 1000th post (wow!), I felt it would be beneficial to re-visit the purpose of my writing all these posts.

I am totally convinced that life is hard. We all face many pressures and unexpected circumstances. Unless we are very intentional about managing all My Balance Sheetin our lives, something (or someone) will be neglected.  I hate when that happens in my life and I’m so bothered when I hear it happening in someone else’s life.  It really bothers me seeing people neglected as “collateral damage” because another person is focused selfishly on their own personal gain in 1 or 2 areas of their life.

These posts are my best attempt at encouraging my readers of the importance of striving for excellence in every of responsibility in your life so that you will life a life without regrets.     That’s why I write what I do.

Let me encourage you to print off this post and use this “My Balance Sheet” daily. Ask yourself the 2 questions above the heart.  If you do, I believe you will never regret doing so and you will increase the level of satisfaction in your life and your influence toward others.

Poetry: Walk-In Beauty

For those who are used to receiving my typical posts, you will find something different in this poetry post. This is a poem that is a part of a Poetry collection that comes from a time of my my searching days

Walk-In Beauty

I know this is sudden,

It came out of the blue,

But I’m feeling something special

Whenever I see you,

I don’t really  know you,

But I’m hoping to become friends

and once our friendship starts,

I hope it never ends.

This probably is surprising,

Different- I suppose,

I guess it all can be explained

in the beauty of a Rose.

I am kind of curious

And I want to meet you soon.

Talking very gently

Under the stillness of the moon.

I hope I haven’t shocked you,

my intentions are sincere.

You’ve added something special  to my life,

something not to fear.

This enduring feeling

will  just not go away,

I hope that something happens,

I hope it is today.

Some wise words from a former President

“We have staked the whole future of the American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future . . . upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God”

James Madison President and main author of the U. S. Constitution

What kind of leader are you…

Leader, in all your busyness and the world of pressures you live in, do you ever just pause to ask what kind of leader are you?  In other words, why do you followers follow you?

“There are leaders and there are those who lead.  Leaders hold a position of power or influence. Those who lead inspire us.”   Simon Sinek

In other words, are your followers following you because they have to or are they inspired to do so?

  • are you able to judge how honest people can be with you?   (people who just follow you because they have to will hold back both in their productivity, sacrifices, and contributions)
  • is there a positive feel to your workplace culture (inspired workers want to be there–they will feel they are a part of something)
  • how often are you conveying humility?  (inspired workers will play off of the example of their leadership.  if workers are always feeling they are not meeting your standard of excellence and that making mistakes is almost an unforgivable sin, well most likely, you are leading from a place of position, not inspiration)
  • be a learner–read books, listen to podcasts, go to YouTube, or Google—their is almost an endless amount of helpful resources for helping you become a better leader—but you’ll need to humbly and diligently pursue that information AND the, implement it.

Are you up for something fun, community-building, and will be good for you?

As readers of this blog are well aware, Personal Health is one of the 7 areas of responsibility  in each of our lives.  How well are you doing in this area?

Well, I’d like to throw out to my social media network something fun, community-building, and will help bring personal growth for you (in the area of your health). Sound good?

Starting today, I have begun using one of the most popular exercise apps available:  7 minute Workout Challenge (it has a green logo with a number 7 in the middle of a stop watch).   That’s it–just 7 minutes. You can do more, but to start out, just 1 circuit of various exercises lasting 7 minutes is all that is involved.  7 minute workout challenge

The app costs $2.99.  Isn’t that a low price for something that you can do with others and will bring a health benefit to you?

Will you join me?

If so, feel free to let me know how your workouts are going.
