I was moved today by hearing Bishop Claude Richard Alexander, Jr. speaking on diversity. He mentioned that if organizations, really our society, are going to truly become more diverse, we need to move beyond thinking that just adding more people of color is the end goal.
He went on to say, “The acceptance of color does not necessarily mean the acceptance by the culture”.
In other words, organizations and society will all prosper when they come to the point when there is a welcoming and respect for different points of view. No one person, no one gender, no one ethnicity, no one country stands above any other.
These were challenging words to hear and even more challenging understanding what my next steps will be to move in this direction.
