In your storms, exercise faith

I know that a majority of those who subscribe to getting my posts, or those who are followers on Twitter, Facebook, or Linked-In are Christians.

So, my hope is that you take this post to heart.  Who were the people closest to Jesus?  It’s not a trick question.  It was His disciples.  They did life with Him 24/7. For over 3 years, they did life with Him.  Yet as close to Him as they were, there are many recorded times where they said something to the effect of “who is this man?”

Jesus was not someone they understood. He was frequently doing the unexpected, expanding their concept of what faith was about, and enlarging their heart for others.   Jesus frequently amazed them.

So, how about you?  When is the last time Jesus amazed you?

Here is a historical account from the Bible that I just read that speaks to what I am writing about (Luke 7:22-25, NLT):

22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and started out. 23 As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fierce storm came down on the lake. The boat was filling with water, and they were in real danger.

24 The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. 25 Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?”

The disciples were terrified and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!”

As Jesus and His disciples are crossing a lake, they get overwhelmed by a big storm. Whereas, the disciples began to panic fearing their lives, Jesus, on the other hand was asleep.  Talk about exhaustion (and contentment).

Thinking that they were going to drown,  the disciples  work Jesus up to alert Him to their danger. When Jesus woke up, He rebuked the wind and the waves so that the sea became calm.  Wow!

In amazement, the disciples asked, “Who is this man?”.

My point in all this is many of us I believe have a faith in Jesus, but as I asked earlier, “when is the last time we were amazed at who He is? ” What are we depending on Him to do in our lives?

What situation is going on in our lives that is bringing us great stress?  Have you exercised faith in Him who can do all things?

Have you given Him an opportunity to show Himself strong not only in your life, but to provide an opportunity for Him to show His awesomeness to others?

Exercise faith my friend!
