Leaders–this is your time

Standard
“Taking the safe road, doing your job, and not making any waves may not get you fired (right away, at least), but it sure  won’t do much for your career or your company over the long haul. We’re not dumb. We know that administrators are easy to find and cheap to keep.  Leaders, risk takers  are in very short supply.  And ones with vision are pure gold.”

Leaders, you have been given a charge to lead– so lead.
I love the quote from Horst Schulze, “as leaders, we forfeited our rights to make excuses.”
So, leaders,  if you are playing it too safe because of fear, or for whatever other reason, step up.  You will never regret being honest with yourself in leading as you know it should be done.  Really, what alternative do you have?  You can coast and get along, but not only will your company end up paying a price, but so will you.  It will eat you up inside because you are not leading as you know you should.
Be courageous and do what is right.

  1. I could not agree more. My own conclusion is that the word or idea of a “leader” has been loosely used over the years. I’m not saying we all do not have the ability to lead with whatever role we hold in life, but I think we can agree that true leaders are far and few between. I think what makes a true leader special is, one, their ability paint a picture (vision). Secondly, the ability to pull people together or get everyone on board. Thirdly, the ability to chart the course by giving direction. Lastly, and my favorite… The willingness and ability to take risks that support the vision…to take chances on what you believe in…to differentiate and set yourselves apart from the 99% of leaders who play it safe, who are paralyzed by fear or just perhaps may have no vision.

    Thanks for your post Wally!
