Logo #1 -Priorities
I love the logo for this Foundations ministry. There are actually 3 “hidden” meanings in this logo. Today, I want to write about the first meaning behind this logo.
It has to do with the issue of Priorities. I first read about this illustration from Stephen Covey. He was giving an example of different size rocks, pebbles, and sand, and water and what was the best way to maximize getting as much in to a bowl. He pointed out that the best way to get the most in a bowl was to fill it first with the bigger rocks first, then the smaller rocks, and pebbles, then the sand, and then the water.
The point he was making in this illustration was that we should manage our lives in the same way. Start first with the things that matter the most. Then, after you take care of the highest priority move on to taking care of the next most important thing in your life, and so on. The lower rung areas of your life will tend to just fill in the cracks, or you will realize they are not that important anyway.
This idea is so important in managing your time (really, your life) because the temptation is to fill our time with “filler” things that pass the time, like just watching TV for hours. You will never get that time back. As we waste our time, we will find that we will start neglecting those priorities we should have been doing and we will develop regrets.
So, let me encourage you, if you are not doing it already, be very intentional about how you use your time. Plan out your schedule. Take care of getting things done that you need to get done–the priority things.
As you do this, you will be energized because not only will you be making progress and getting things done, but you will also be getting the things done that mean the most to you.
