Christians, are we being choked?

Standard

It seems pretty straight-forward that the kind of life that we, as Christ followers should be living is to:

– be zealous for good works

– be experiencing the Abundant Life that Jesus said He came to give us

– live with a desperation, even a reliance and joy in the Holy Spirit

– be manifesting the fruit of the spirit as outlined in Galatians 5

However, the reality in my own life is that too often I find my full potential for experiencing the Christian life choked out by 3 deceptive and powerful opponents (just like Jesus described in Luke 8:14 (nasb): 14 The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.

Christian, please understand that the temptations of worry, money, and pleasures are powerful in the way they can distract us from experiencing the “far better quality of life” than this world can offer us.

I think of how fitting the words in Genesis 4:7 (nasb) are to this conversation:

If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”

How about you? Is there any chance that you might be slowly getting choked by these 3 enemies of our faith: the riches, worries, and pleasures of this world?

If so, please know that the only way of overcoming these temptations, really all temptations is by our recognizing our desperate need and the supportive power of the Holy Spirit working in you .
