There are so many Bible verses that overwhelm me with their significance, such as:
“Cast all your anxieties on Him for He cares about you”
or, speaking to the Israelites (and us, too), “what great nation is there that has statutes and judgements as righteous as this whole law which I am setting before you today?”
How awesome prayer is that Almighty God would desire us to talk with Him about the things that on our heart.
Yet, prayer is not a one-way street. Think if you were given the opportunity to have a 2 hour dinner with Warren Buffett, one of the world’s wealthiest men and one of the greatest investors of all time. Throughout this dinner, you find yourself doing all the talking about your life and your thoughts about investing, and the economy, trends, and the future. Ugh! What a wasted opportunity for you! Here you are with a person who has such a wealth of experience and knowledge and you didn’t even take advantage of the opportunity to find out what he thinks.
Yet, unfortunately, I often do this very same thing with God. Its as if I’m saying, “Thanks God for giving me your time. Now, here’s all the things on my mind and here is how I want you to fix these things”. Again, ugh! What a wasted time!
Its not so much that lifting our concerns to Him is a bad thing (its not), but give God an opportunity to respond. You are asking Him for His help—let Him give it.
