Sometimes I think about all that is going on in the world today and I wonder how we
arrived at this point in our history. Its easy to think about the negative things
happening because the media has no problems continually reminding us of them.
However, there are a lot of positive things that we have to be grateful for and
a lot of outstanding people in the past who have made them possible. One of
those people was President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
He was a General in World War 2 and commander of Operation Overlord (the D Day
invasion), President of Columbia University, head of NATO forces, and 34th
President of the U.S.
He was a huge influence in helping to bring stability to Europe after WW 2. He
helped contain Russia’s communism-expanding policies in the 50’s. He also dealt
with numerous, difficult international and domestic crisis’.
A few years ago, I spent a year reading about almost all of our U.S. Presidents,
but didn’t quite finish reading about some of our twentieth century presidents.
I’d heard of Dwight D. Eisenhower, but did not know much about him so I just
felt prompted to spend an afternoon reading about him.
This youth-oriented book is not a difficult read, and one that I enjoyed.
It helped me learn about this man and his contributions to making
America the great country that it is.
